Kick-off meeting on social work held
A regional kick-off meeting on Development of “ASEAN Declaration on Promotion of Social Work” took place in Hanoi on October 28.
At the meeting, many delegates agreed that in Southeast Asiaregion, social work has not been recognised as a professional job by law. Many countries have yet to realize the importance of social work in people’s lives and in governance to ensure the provision of services and support to disadvantaged groups. Resources-related challenges, including professional personnel with appropriate skills, knowledge and attitudes, as well as financial resources in social work, are barriers to develop social work in the ASEAN region in particular and in the world in general.
